For the benefit of society.
— John Davison Rockefeller Sr., at the meeting of the Rockefeller Foundation, April 3, 1940
Rockefeller Publishing Co. was established to make science and education accessible to all, honoring the Rockefeller family's legacy of benevolence and philanthropy.
Rockefeller Publishing Co. envisions a world where scientific knowledge is freely accessible to everyone.
Rockefeller Publishing Co. is committed to sustainable academic publishing that prioritizes knowledge dissemination over profit.
We provide a platform where researchers can publish their work through open access.
Rockefeller Publishing Co. does not charge authors. All authors can publish open-access books, book chapters, monographs, articles, essays, and reports for free; no fees, no payments. Our no-fee open access model is designed to:
Rockefeller Publishing Co. believes knowledge is a public good. This belief aligns with the company's core value: knowledge should be accessible to all. When scientists and educators build upon existing knowledge and share it for free, they help communities thrive. It is like planting seeds—every seed has the potential to grow and give fruits.
The idea of starting a company came up during the COVID-19 pandemic when a group of US researchers decided to take action against the inequities of the emerging open-access model [1], [2]. They were frustrated that open-access publishers charge prohibitive fees to authors [3], creating barriers that prevent researchers from sharing their discoveries.
Some open-access publishers provide waivers for researchers from the least developed countries; however, these efforts fall short because most of the world's research comes from middle- and high-income countries.
Moreover, most researchers count on a few resources to support their research. Paying for publication fees exceeding a thousand US dollars is a distant dream [4], [5]. Exorbitant article publication fees reinforce inequity and harm the progress of science [3].
At Rockefeller, we follow a different model. We are inclusive. We welcome researchers who do not have the funds to pay publication fees. We believe publishing an open-access book or article should be accessible to all scientists who wish to do so. If research has scientific merit, it deserves publication.
It does not matter which country the authors have carried out their research. At Rockefeller, they can publish their research for free, regardless of their country of origin. Their scientific findings are for the greater good. Their scientific findings will benefit society in many ways. That's why we support scientists. At Rockefeller, scientists can publish their research free of charge.
Our unique Free-for-All Program is sponsored by philanthropists who believe in open science. Their support has been key to cover the costs of this program.
Open Access does not mean less scientific rigor. At Rockefeller, we strive for excellence. We trust in a competent Editorial Board to ensure that only rigorously peer-reviewed research is published. Our Editorial Board is independently chosen and empowered to do whatever is necessary to safeguard scientific excellence and integrity across all our publications. Our commitment to the highest standards of quality, ethics, and integrity is unwavering.
Participating in the Free-for-All Program does not grant acceptance of a manuscript. In other words, a voucher from the Free-for-All Program does not affect peer review or editorial decisions in any form. Only manuscripts accepted on merit will be published.
Rockefeller Publishing Co. does not charge publication fees.
The company measures success not in profits but in knowledge disseminated. What the company values most is research knowledge accessible to students, researchers, and curious minds, regardless of their financial resources or institutional affiliations.
The company offers authors high-quality publication services at no cost*.
* The generosity of donors has allowed Rockefeller Publishing Co. to secure sufficient funds to sustain its operations. The company utilizes open-source software throughout the publication process.
